setup virtual site, users, mailaccounts on raq 550

Greetings to all reading this,

I am a Linux/Unix newbie webmaster with a dedicated server, a RaQ 550. I am looking for some step by step documentation about managing a server with shell (not the GUI), from adding a virtual site to adding users, email accounts etc. I can find only parts of this steps and I am afraid that I could miss something important. Here is what I have done untill now:
I have registered the domain name and indicated the right DNS data (two weeks ago or more);
I have wrote an email to my server provider that I have purchased the domain and he made some set-up's I don not know what (a week ago).
I have connected today through the GUI and found out that my site isn't showing in the virtual site list, so I added it with the right host/domain name, IP address etc.
I have setup an user through the GUI with alias on the email account and that's it.
Now I tried to send an email to the email account (username@domain.etc) and I received the error message
"553 5.3.5 mail.domain.etc. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
554 5.3.5 Local configuration error

Final-Recipient: RFC822; contact@domain.etc
Action: failed
Status: 5.3.5
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 553 5.3.5 system config error
Last-Attempt-Date: Thu, 14 May 2009 03:03:24 -0700"

I understood that the mail account may not be added to the host. Therefore, I would like to learn all the steps one has to do when setting up such a virtual site. I have ofcourse shell and root acces. Thank you in advance for any suggestions, help.
