Note: if the directory /test exists it is a really bad name for a file or a directory.
test is the name of a unix command. file names that match command names cause problems.

I am writing a shell script (for displaying disk space details) which is logging to 15 different servers using following command.

Returns TRUE if the $filename exists and is writable. The filename argument may be a directory name allowing you to check if a directory
is writable.
Keep in mind that PHP may be accessing the file as the user id that the web server runs as (often 'nobody'). Safe mode limitations are not
taken into account.
PARAMETERS

- The filename being checked.
RETURN VALUES
Returns TRUE if the $filename exists and is writable.
