extendvg and rootvg
When attempting to extend rootvg to a new physical disk I received the following message:
Code:
0516-1162 extendvg: Warning, The Physical Partition Size of 64 requires the
        creation of 1093 partitions for hdisk5.  The limitation for volume group

        rootvg is 1016 physical partitions per physical volume.  Use chvg comman
d
        with -t option to attempt to change the maximum Physical Partitions per
        Physical volume for this volume group.
0516-792 extendvg: Unable to extend volume group.

Can I change the allowed maximum phsical partitions while the system is running or do I have to perform a mksysb and make a change? What would be the steps to perform this. Thank you.

rootvg mirrored

I want to increase the size of /tmp by 1GB I know that the command is chfs -a size=+1G /tmp But the rootvg is mirrored and when I do a lsvg -p rootvg, I could see 2 disks. Will there be any impact if I increase the size of /tmp when the rootvg is mirrored ? Please advise. (1 Reply)

Reducing / on rootvg

The root filesystem was mirrored, someone/something stopped mirroring, and increased / and /home to ridiculous values (/ got increased to 102gb and its only using 4.3gb, so 98gb is free).        pvchange - change attributes of a physical volume

SYNOPSIS

       pvchange  [--addtag  Tag]  [-A|--autobackup y|n] [-d|--debug] [-f|--force] [--deltag Tag] [--metadataignore y|n] [-h|-?|--help] [-t|--test]
       [-v|--verbose] [-a|--all] [-x|--allocatable y|n] [-u|--uuid] [PhysicalVolumePath...]

DESCRIPTION

       pvchange allows you to change the allocation permissions of one or more physical volumes.

OPTIONS

       See lvm for common options.

       -a, --all
	      If PhysicalVolumePath is not specified on the command line all physical volumes are searched for and used.

       --metadataignore  y|n
	      Ignore or un-ignore metadata areas on this physical volume.  If metadata areas on a physical volume are ignored, LVM  will  not  not
	      store metadata in the metadata areas present on this Physical Volume.

       -u, --uuid
	      Generate new random UUID for specified physical volumes.

       -x, --allocatable y|n
	      Enable or disable allocation of physical extents on this physical volume.

Example
       "pvchange -x n /dev/sdk1" disallows the allocation of physical extents on this physical volume (possibly because of disk errors, or because
       it will be removed after freeing it.
