SDD for SVC on HP-UX and LINUX
Hello Unix Admins:
Has any one in this distribution list implemented SVC (SAN Volume Contoller - A solution from IBM) in your environment? If you have, do you have any do's / don'ts? Anything which you like sharing would be really appreciated.
For example, my inputs:
I tried implementing SDD for SVC on Linux 4.6. It worked fine on one server and not the next one. The reason being that - SDD for SVC cannot be implemented on a Large Linux Kernel. The server where I successfully implemented had a small kernel since it had 16G of RAM. The next server which had 64 Gigs of RAM had a large kernel and SVC is not yet supported on this.
I have been trying to convert a HP-UX 11i Server from EMC Powerpath to SVC. We have a number of disk devices which are zero bytes. Each time we try to access these drives with a "dd" command or "diskinfo" etc., the server panics. The issue is un-resolved at the moment.
Please send your experiences and solutions if you have found any. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Can anyone recommend me some reading material surrounding how AIX handles LUNs:
- with and without MPIO installed
- with and without SDD or SDDPCM installed
Where does lspath sit in all of this (MPIO layer?). Can a system be built with just MPIO software? Is MPIO software even needed?

I was wondering if there is a way of auto-detecting a new vpath, using IBM's SDD driver, on a Linux platform.
ON AIX it is a simple as running cfgmgr.

ATMADDR(8) Maintenance Commands ATMADDR(8)
NAME
atmaddr - list and maintain local ATM addresses
SYNOPSIS
atmaddr [-n] [itf]
atmaddr -r [itf]
atmaddr -a [itf] atm_addr
atmaddr -d [itf] atm_addr
atmaddr -V
DESCRIPTION
atmaddr is used to list the local addresses configured for ATM interfaces and to manually change the list of addresses. If the interface
number itf is omitted, interface 0 is used by default. The ATM address atm_addr can be any valid ATM SVC address, e.g. an E.164 address or
an ATM Forum NSAP address.
If invoked without options, atmaddr lists the addresses that are currently configured on the specified interface.
Note that local ATM addresses are normally automatically maintained by the ILMI demon.
OPTIONS
-a append the specified address at the end of the list.
-d delete the specified address from the list.
-n numeric address output only. No address to name translation is attempted.
-r reset (clear) the local address list of the specified interface.
-V print the version number of atmaddr on standard output and exit.
