I'm trying to make a backup of a directory tree on Solaris 8. I'm doing this with my own ID, not root. The problem I am running into is when I extract the archive, all files are owned by me and the group is my default group. The man page lists this as the default behavior when executed by a... Hi all,
I've been trying to get this to work for ages to no avail. I've searched this site and googled but cannot find a satisfactory answer.
I've got a while loop, like this
while read line
do
echo "$line"
done < file_name
Now, my problem is that most of the lines in the file... (3 Replies)
I'm trying to search all .odt files in a directory for a string in the text of the file.
I've found a bash script that works, except that it can't handle whitespace in the filenames.
#!/bin/bash
if ; then
echo "Usage: searchodt searchterm"
exit 1

for file in $(ls *.odt); do

Hi,
I have a for loop which iterates over a list of strings, separated by whitespace:
$ list="1 2 3"
$ for i in $list; do echo $i; done
1
2
3
I now want to introduce some strings containing whitespace themselves ... This is straightforward if I directly iterate over the list:
$ for... (4 Replies)
I'm trying to get a number of old disks on HP-UX 10.2 copied over to a new Debian machine which has a NAS on it.
The HP does not have rsync, but does have scp. Scp unfortunately does not always preserve permissions, and does not save links which were on the disk.
Apparently rsync has a flag... (3 Replies)

However this is not the case. Can you tell me how to do it? I don't want to use AWK for this. Secondly, how can i fetch just 300? Should I use "\2"... (3 Replies)
Hi guys,
I'm trying to unzip a file and rename it to another while preserving the original timestamp:
$ cat file.dat.gz | gzip -d > newfile.dat
My goal is to assign the file.dat.gz timestamp to newfile.dat.
I cannot use gunzip, due to various checks done with wget. Basically, I have to... (1 Reply)

locale::codes::langvar
Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm) Perl Programmers Reference Guide Locale::Codes::LangVar(3pm)NAME
Locale::Codes::LangVar - standard codes for language variation identification
SYNOPSIS
use Locale::Codes::LangVar;
$lvar = code2langvar('acm'); # $lvar gets 'Mesopotamian Arabic'
$code = langvar2code('Mesopotamian Arabic'); # $code gets 'acm'
@codes = all_langvar_codes();
@names = all_langvar_names();
DESCRIPTION
The "Locale::Codes::LangVar" module provides access to standard codes used for identifying language variations, such as those as defined in
the IANA language registry.
Most of the routines take an optional additional argument which specifies the code set to use. If not specified, the default IANA language
registry codes will be used.
SUPPORTED CODE SETS
There are several different code sets you can use for identifying language variations. A code set may be specified using either a name, or
a constant that is automatically exported by this module.
For example, the two are equivalent:
$lvar = code2langvar('en','alpha-2');
$lvar = code2langvar('en',LOCALE_CODE_ALPHA_2);
The codesets currently supported are:
alpha
This is the set of alphanumeric codes from the IANA language registry, such as 'arevela' for Eastern Armenian.
This code set is identified with the symbol "LOCALE_LANGVAR_ALPHA".
This is the default code set.

Locale::Codes::LangVar::add_langvar_code_alias ( CODE ,NEW_CODE [,CODESET] )

These routines are all documented in the Locale::Codes::API man page.
