I have a text file with several entries like below:

I know there is a way to use vi to remove only the personname.domain.com line. Can someone help? I believe that it involves /s/g/ something...I just can't remember the exact syntax.

Hi gurus,
i'm trying to remove a number of lines from a large file using the following command:
sed '1,5000d' oldfile > newfile
Somehow the lines in the old file are not deleted...
Am I doing this wrongly? Any suggestions? :confused:

How can I adjust the file so it looks like this:

NAME
DROP INDEX - remove an index
SYNOPSIS
DROP INDEX index_name [, ...] [ CASCADE | RESTRICT ]
INPUTS
index_name
The name (optionally schema-qualified) of an index to remove.
CASCADE
Automatically drop objects that depend on the index.
RESTRICT
Refuse to drop the index if there are any dependent objects. This is the default.
OUTPUTS
DROP INDEX
The message returned if the command completes successfully.
ERROR: index "index_name" does not exist
This message occurs if index_name is not an index in the database.
DESCRIPTION
DROP INDEX drops an existing index from the database system. To execute this command you must be the owner of the index.
NOTES
DROP INDEX is a PostgreSQL language extension.
Refer to CREATE INDEX [create_index(7)] for information on how to create indexes.
USAGE
This command will remove the title_idx index:
DROP INDEX title_idx;
