I cannot reproduce this so maybe another env varaiable or system setting is overwritting LANG.
LANG is empty for both OS, if I set it I get the same result on SUN.
$ LANG=C export LANG
$ sort test
03|ref|168126310|702578641||||||||||||||
03|ref|168126310|702578641|DEL|
03|ref|168126310|702578641|FW|
06|ref|168126310|702578641|10|
$ echo $LANG
C
I guess some SUN settings of below might have an impact here
LC_COLLATE=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_MESSAGES=C
LC_MONETARY=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.ISO8859-1
I tried to set them all on HP UX but no difference visible.

hi,
i want to rename all the file names in order so that they can be sorted later.
For example, my filenames are like path\1, path\2...path\10, path\11.
But when I sort them, it sorts by the first number, so path\1 gets sorted with path\10.
I'm guessing the best way to do this is to rename... (5 Replies)
