The DHCP server should be on the same physical LAN (or VLAN if you are using fancy switches) as the client host.
If you have verified that it is on the same LAN, then either: the DHCP server is not configured to recognize the new hosts' MAC address, or there is a firewall on the server blocking such activity (which would be stupid to do to a DHCP server), or there is a problem with the client configuration -- you've set it for DCHP, but not correctly.

I need to setup a DHCP server in our office for Macs, Windows (98/ME/NT/2000) Linux and Unix servers and workstations. We want it on a Unix server, but I'm unsure what is out there. The Unix world is new to me, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
