Alright, figured it out on my own. The issue was the line breaks, since I was using Notepad. Had to use the code:
Code:
  dos2unix < GNUMakefile > GNUMakefile.new
  mv GNUMakefile.new GNUMakefile

Which editor should I use instead of Notepad so I won't have to keep converting files?
