You can't directly boot Solaris from a different version of grub that the ones provided with Solaris. You might chainload Solaris grub from a non ufs/zfs aware grub with this kind of entry:

I have Windows XP dual boot with Ubuntu 8.10 on my system. I brought in a portable HDD on which I installed Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit. grub-install copies GRUB images into /boot/grub, and uses grub-setup to install grub into the boot sector.
