Hi,

use eval.

If col=(1 7 3) and person=(fred bert tom)

This:
Code:
echo ${person[$(eval echo ${col[3]})]}

will print out: tom

and

Code:
echo ${person[$(eval echo ${col[1]})]}

will give you: fred
