Solaris supports extended file attributes, but there are no user level commands for setting or changing them, and even the chatr command in HP-UX, and chattr in AIX have unrelated functions. The API for using those attributes is documented in the fsattr(5) man listing.

I need to find out when a file has been created. 'ls -l' just lists the last date the file was modified. I have also noticed when viewing the attributes through NT, the last modified date is the same as the file creation date. I thought maybe this was a fault due to samba.

I am using RHEL 6.4, on checking I identified some files ends with the file attribute like dot (.) at the end. Whereas, I checked with the same level of other servers and I don't identify dot(.) at the end of file attribute. Why is it so? is there any meaning for it.

NAME
lsattr - list file attributes on a Linux second extended file system
SYNOPSIS
lsattr [ -RVadlpv ] [ files... ]
DESCRIPTION
lsattr lists the file attributes on a second extended file system. See chattr(1) for a description of the attributes and what they mean.
OPTIONS
-R Recursively list attributes of directories and their contents.
-V Display the program version.
-a List all files in directories, including files that start with `.'.
-d List directories like other files, rather than listing their contents.
-l Print the options using long names instead of single character abbreviations.
-p List the file's project number.
-v List the file's version/generation number.
