Try the below command & let me know
echo "data1" >> filename.txt
echo -e "\t" >> filename.txt
echo "data2" >> filename.txt
In the echo command whatever u specify within quotes it treats that one to be literal
Use the -e option in case Escape Identifiers

filemtime - Gets file modification time
SYNOPSIS
int filemtime (string $filename)
DESCRIPTION
This function returns the time when the data blocks of a file were being written to, that is, the time when the content of the file was
changed.
PARAMETERS
o $filename
- Path to the file.
RETURN VALUES
Returns the time the file was last modified, or FALSE on failure. The time is returned as a Unix timestamp, which is suitable for the
date(3) function.
