The solutions posted so far fail to cope with the = followed by newlines part of the encoding. Also there are other characters which might or might not be encoded using quoted-printable. I would recommend that you split the processing into two steps: decoding the QP, and extracting the information you want.
Here's an attempt at defusing the QP encoding:
You could pipe the output from that to what you already have (use it instead of the tr command you had before) or extend the Perl script to also extract the information you require:

Can someone please assist me, I'm trying to get vi to remove all the occurences of the text in a file i.e. "DEVICE=/dev/mt??". The "??" represents a number variable. Is there a globel search and delete command that I can use?

In the awk I am trying to add :p.=? to the end of each $9 that matches the pattern NM_. The below executes andis close but I can not seem to figure out why the :p.=? repeats in the split as in the green in the current output. I have added comments as well. Thank you :).
