Rounding off to the next whole number
Hello,
I searched a lot on this Forum.
Please help me with the below problem.
I want to divide two numbers and the result should be the next nearest whole number.
E.G. Dividing 10.8/5 ideally gives 2.16. But the result should be 3 i.e. rounded off to the next whole number.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.

I am trying to round a decimal number to the ten-thousandths place
For instance:
1.23456 is rounded up towards 1.2346
I am not looking for truncation, but for rounding. Anyone know how to do this with awk or expr?

It seems that perl sprintf uses the round-to-even method:
foreach my $i ( 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 ) {
printf "$i -> %.0f\n", $i;
}
__END__
0.5 -> 0
1.5 -> 2
2.5 -> 2
3.5 -> 4
4.5 -> 4
Where we probably wants to use round-half-up, i.e. output should be as below:
0.5 -> 1

I used the following to round the number to the closer integer:

and also:
xargs printf "%1.0f"

E.g.
1.2346 will become 1.23
but
1.2356 will become 1.24 .
Similarly
0.009 will be 0.01
and

NAME
round, roundf, roundl - round to nearest integer, away from zero
SYNOPSIS
#include <math.h>
double round(double x);
float roundf(float x);
long double roundl(long double x);
DESCRIPTION
These functions round x to the nearest integer, but round halfway cases away from zero (regardless of the current rounding direction),
instead of to the nearest even integer like rint().
RETURN VALUE
The rounded integer value. If x is integral or infinite, x itself is returned.
ERRORS
No errors other than EDOM and ERANGE can occur. If x is NaN, then NaN is returned and errno may be set to EDOM.
NOTES
POSIX 1003.1-2001 contains text about overflow (which might set errno to ERANGE, or raise an exception). In practice, the result cannot
overflow on any current machine, so this error-handling stuff is just nonsense. (More precisely, overflow can happen only when the maximum
value of the exponent is smaller than the number of mantissa bits. For the IEEE-754 standard 32-bit and 64-bit floating point numbers the
maximum value of the exponent is 128 (resp. 1024), and the number of mantissa bits is 24 (resp. 53).)
