I tried this but there seems to be a problem since $var is 1.00, and not just 1. It says error token is ".00". Potentially the string could be any decimal number, so I guess I don't want integers, I want decimal arithmetic. How would I do this?

I'm converting decimal to integer with bc, and I'd like to assign the integer output from bc to a variable 'val'.
E.g. In the code below: If b is 5000.000, lines 6 and 8 will output:

(5000.000+0.5)/1 | bc

variant_round
VARIANT_ROUND(3) 1 VARIANT_ROUND(3)
variant_round - Rounds a variant to the specified number of decimal places
SYNOPSIS
mixed variant_round (mixed $variant, int $decimals)
DESCRIPTION
Returns the value of $variant rounded to $decimals decimal places.
PARAMETERS
o $variant
- The variant.
o $decimals
- Number of decimal places.
Note
As with all the variant arithmetic functions, the parameters for this function can be either a PHP native type (integer, string,
floating point, boolean or NULL), or an instance of a COM, VARIANT or DOTNET class. PHP native types will be converted to variants
using the same rules as found in the constructor for the "VARIANT" class. COM and DOTNET objects will have the value of their
default property taken and used as the variant value.
The variant arithmetic functions are wrappers around the similarly named functions in the COM library; for more information on
these functions, consult the MSDN library. The PHP functions are named slightly differently; for example variant_add(3) in PHP cor-
responds to VarAdd() in the MSDN documentation.
RETURN VALUES
Returns the rounded value.
