Question on lists
I'm fairly new to shell scripting and would like to know if what I am seeking to do is possible in shell.

I'm trying to make a list of strings. The list will be looped through and each member of the list will be used to pass a parsing option to python. My script looks something like this:

#!/bin/sh
EXECDIR=~sh/Modules
COMMAND=rep.py
OPERATION1=$FindName
OPERATION2=$Filter/Sort

li = [L1PA2, L1PA3, ....] (however this is defined, if it is possible)

for j in $li a?
mkdir /home/sh/data/$j
for i in *.bed a?
python $EXECDIR/$COMMAND -r $i -n $j -o $OPERATION1 > /home/shane/data/Repetive_Element_Data/$j/$i
echo $i
done
done
