Counting occurence of a particular character on each line

I have a .csv file that I would like to count on each line the occurences of the coma. Each line should have the same amount, but as an integrity check I would like to include in my script this count.

I want to list the occurence of particular characters in a line. my file looks like this
a,b,c,d
e,f,g
h,y:e,g,y s
f;g,s,w
and I want to count how many commas are in each line so the file in the end looks like this:
a,b,c,d 3
e,f,g 2
h,y:e,g,y s 3

I tried this
$ tr "\011" "\012\012"<foo1 | tr -cd "" |sort\uniq -c
but I got result like this
32 apache
18 dns
12 doctor

is it possible to find the number of occurences of a pattern between two paranthesis.
for e.g
i have a file as below.

>>is it good,
>>tell me yes, if it is good

arp2ethers - convert arpwatch address database to ethers file format SYNOPSIS
arp2ethers [ arp.dat file ] DESCRIPTION
arp2ethers converts the file /var/lib/arpwatch/arp.dat (or the file specified on the command line) into ethers(5) format on stdout. Usu- ally arp.dat is an ethernet/ip database file generated by arpwatch(8). The arpwatch daemon in Debian will create different arp.dat depend- ing on its configuration. All of them will be available at /var/lib/arpwatch/. FILES
