I am trying to modify the awk below to include the gene name ($5) for each target and can not seem to do so. Also, I'm not sure the calculation is right (average of all targets that are the same is $4 using the values in $7)? Thank you :).

In the below awk I am trying to combine all matching $4 into a single $5 (up to the -), and count the lines in $6 and average all values in $7. The awk is close but it seems to only be using the last line in the file and skipping all others. The posted input is a sample of the file that is over... (3 Replies)

script - make record of a terminal session SYNOPSIS
script [-a] [filename] DESCRIPTION
The script utility makes a record of everything printed on your screen. The record is written to filename. If no file name is given, the record is saved in the file typescript. See WARNINGS. The script command forks and creates a sub-shell, according to the value of $SHELL, and records the text from this session. The script ends when the forked shell exits or when Control-d is typed. OPTIONS
The following option is supported: -a Appends the session record to filename, rather than overwriting it. NOTES
