This might be a silly question, but I thought I'd ask anyway. If I'm writing in C, isn't it more efficient to, for instance, use constant character variable set to 'A' instead of hard-coding a character 'A'? Since it's only a single character instead of a string, it might not matter much.

SYNOPSIS

ARGUMENTS

       hdf -> the hdf dataset node

DESCRIPTION

       hdf_obj_top  is	an  accessor function which returns a pointer to the top of the dataset, the node which was returned by hdf_init.  This is
       most useful for implementations of language wrappers where individual nodes are tied garbage colletion wise to the top node of the data set
