Your comment that the field numbers in awk are insufficient lead me to suspect that this is not going to be very sustainable, but for what it's worth, here's a sed solution.
There are some variations in sed syntax; if you're lucky, you could even get one which understands
without those pesky backslashes, and with the neat {4} repetition count.
I'd still concur that you probably want to use awk for this if it's a real problem and the field numbers are larger than half a dozen. Probably you can work around this issue even if your awk is ... old and grumpy.

sybase_result
SYBASE_RESULT(3)SYBASE_RESULT(3)sybase_result - Get result dataSYNOPSIS
string sybase_result (resource $result, int $row, mixed $field)
DESCRIPTION
Returns the contents of the cell at the row and offset in the specified Sybase result set.
When working on large result sets, you should consider using one of the functions that fetch an entire row (specified below). As these
functions return the contents of multiple cells in one function call, they're MUCH quicker than sybase_result(). Also, note that specifying
a numeric offset for the field argument is much quicker than specifying a fieldname or tablename.fieldname argument.
Recommended high-performance alternatives: sybase_fetch_row(3), sybase_fetch_array(3) and sybase_fetch_object(3).
PARAMETERS
o $result
-
o $row
-
o $field
- The field argument can be the field's offset, or the field's name, or the field's table dot field's name (tablename.fieldname).
If the column name has been aliased ('select foo as bar from...'), use the alias instead of the column name.
RETURN VALUES sybase_result(3) returns the contents of one cell from a Sybase result set.
