The -z option is found in GNU tar for example but not on a lot of other implmentations./

How do I untar file through an ssh session?

Hi All, How do I untar (tar xvf) a file through an ssh session? I have a tar file with "relative path names". I scp the file to a remote host:/tmp - no prob. But when I untar the file through ssh from a remote host it puts it in my "home directory" under the relative path - not in /tmp... (3 Replies)

This man page documents version 1.2 of libtar. DESCRIPTION
The th_get_*() functions extract individual fields from the current tar header associated with the TAR handle t. The TH_IS*() macros are used to evaluate what kind of file is pointed to by the current tar header associated with the TAR handle t. The TH_ISLONGNAME() and TH_ISLONGLINK() macros evaluate whether or not the GNU extensions are used by the current tar header associated with the TAR handle t.
