I'm trying to have my perl script telnet into the network device execute a command then dump the output of the command into a variable. The script then greps for the word "STANDBY". I have grep command to search for a word "SUB" as below,
grep -w "SUB" file1
But this is taking a word like SUB.XXY or SUB.BBB etc which is not required.. I need only if it is a word "SUB". Any suggestions ???

Diff compares two files and generates a list of lines telling how the two files differ. Lines may not be longer than 128 characters. If
the two arguments on the command line are both directories, diff recursively steps through all subdirectories comparing files of the same
