AIX 5.2/5.3 - rootvg on SAN disk - pros and cons

Hi,
I managed to make IBM PPRC/MetroMirror replicated luns boot but with difficulties! For SRDF, I think it's a bit more complicated because of the way EMC˛ handles replication (R1/R2 mechanism), but it could work.
Booting on the replica works under certain very specific conditions (even booting back to a replica of the recovery lun on the initial site after a DR) but it's not supported by IBM.
All that I can advise you is to test, test & test again in your specific environment.
PROS & CONS : PRO : faster recovery than mksysb with or without Nim, CONS: same as for the datas, you lose the SAN->you lose some datas, but with nowadays UPS and redondant systems it can be ok. Why not consider clustering (which is not supported with srdf replicated luns).
