In case an upgrade, or even a rebuild, isn't feasible..you might try to force the older protocol through the -1 option.

In one of your older posts the verbosity was showing as trying to go in through SSH2. This may be due to the running default of the newer host's config; in fact, what happens when you try to automate going from the Solaris 8 box to the Solaris 10? Possibly forcing a SSH1 protocol will help in any case.

Meanwhile, you can also force synchronization of the various config settings between the hosts via -o settings. ssh --help will outline your options.

Thanks to the help from this forum i've learned a lot of good stuff but I still have questions :). I need to write a script that checks if ssh to a box requires a password. NAME

       sftp-server - SFTP server subsystem

SYNOPSIS

       /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server

DESCRIPTION

       sftp-server implements the server side of the SSH File Transfer Protocol as defined in the IETF draft-ietf-secsh-filexfer.

       sftp-server is a subsystem for sshd(1M) and must not be run directly. There are no options or config settings.

       To enable the sftp-server subsystem for sshd add the following to /etc/ssh/sshd_config:

       Subsystem   sftp     /usr/lib/ssh/sftp-server

       See sshd_config(4) for a description of the format and contents of that file.

       There is no relationship between the protocol used by sftp-server and the FTP protocol (RFC 959) provided by in.ftpd.

EXIT STATUS

       The following exit values are returned:

       0        Successful completion.

       >0       An error occurred.
