script filename to start the srever is say abcd
If i do ps -eaf | grep abc
I get all the instances of srever running .In the out of of above command first filed is UID and 2nd is PID.I am interested in getting the 2nd field only.
I do folllowing
ps -eaf | grep abc
I get
root 9781 6710 99 08:05 pts/3 07:21:16 ./abcd
root 18211 18168 0 11:26 pts/4 00:00:00 vim habcd
root 19174 17533 99 11:49 pts/1 03:37:49 ./abcd
root 19410 17533 99 11:54 pts/1 03:32:40 ./abcd
root 19575 17533 99 11:58 pts/1 03:28:42 ./abcd
To get the 2nd field I do
ps -eaf | grep abc | cut -d \t -f 2
I get
9781 6710 99 08:05 p
18211 18168 0 11:26 p
19174 17533 99 11:49 p
19410 17533 99 11:54 p
19575 17533 99 11:58 p
28427 17533 0 15:30 p
Instead of
9781
18211
19174
19410
19575
28427
Please suggest whta to do to extract particular filed of a command output.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if I can apply multiple cut on a single variable like below in a sh script:
tmp=`cut -c 1-4 $val`
tmp1=`cut -c 5-12 $val`
tmp2=`cut -c 13-18 $val`
If not, what is the other way to do this.
Thanks and Best Regards

pts_quit
PTS_QUIT(1) AFS Command Reference PTS_QUIT(1)
NAME
pts_quit - Exit from pts interactive mode
SYNOPSIS
pts quit [-cell] <cell name> [-noauth] [-localauth]
[-force]
pts q [-c] <cell name> [-n] [-l] [-f]
DESCRIPTION
The pts quit command exits from pts interactive mode. The command can be run from the command line or interactively, but on the command
line it does nothing and is therefore of questionable utility.
CAUTIONS
Prior to OpenAFS 1.4.5 and OpenAFS 1.5.23, the pts quit command was only available on Unix or Linux and when OpenAFS was compiled with the
supergroups option (disabled by default). As of OpenAFS 1.4.5 and 1.5.23, it is always available.
OPTIONS
Although they have no effect, pts quit takes the following standard pts options:
-cell <cell name>
Names the cell in which to run the command. For more details, see pts(1).
-force
Enables the command to continue executing as far as possible when errors or other problems occur, rather than halting execution at the
first error.
-help
Prints the online help for this command. All other valid options are ignored.
-localauth
Constructs a server ticket using a key from the local /etc/openafs/server/KeyFile file. Do not combine this flag with the -cell or
-noauth options. For more details, see pts(1).
-noauth
Assigns the unprivileged identity anonymous to the issuer. For more details, see pts(1).
OUTPUT
This command produces no output.
EXAMPLES
Here is an example of a pts interactive session:
% pts interactive
pts> quit
