ftp waits for longer time to reply
If i fire followin command on unix (linux/solaris) and windows
ftp serverX where serverX is not in the network,
it takes more time to get reply [connection timed out] on unix(3-4 mins) rather windows(1 min),
can anybody tell me why this happens? and how to reduce this time span?

This works if it's not in a function. I pulled it into one and I get syntax error, no mathcing '<'. I have to call it several times and need it to be a function. Any ideas?

I thought a program's elapsed time, some program language call it real time, should be the time of a program from start to finish. And it should be equal or longer than CPU time. This is true for the most of the cases. However, I do see some of my programs CPU time is longer than Elapsed time. ... (1 Reply)

NAME
ftp - FTP client configuration file
SYNOPSIS
/etc/default/ftp
DESCRIPTION
Use the ftp file to configure the behavior of the FTP client. Lines that begin with a hash symbol ("# ") are treated as comment lines and
are ignored.
Behavior Directives
The ftp file supports the following behavior directives:
FTP_LS_SENDS_NLST=yes | no The ls command of the ftp client sends an NLST to the FTP Server by default. Several non-Solaris clients send
LIST instead. In order to make the Solaris ftp client send LIST when the ls command is issued, set
FTP_LS_SENDS_NLST to no. The value of FTP_LS_SENDS_NLST is yes by default.
If the user sets a value for FTP_LS_SENDS_NLST in the user's environment, this value will override any FTP_LS_SENDS_NLST directive that is
specified in /etc/default/ftp.
