Question NIM w/ two network interfaces
Hi all, this is my first post on this forum. My main problem is this:

I have a NIM server that I am trying to configure two interfaces on. One interface is for an internal Admin VLAN, the other is so that the server can use SUMA to pull updates. The problem is that I need help w/ the routing. I have made a few mistakes doing this. I want to force all 10.x.x.x traffic over the Admin VLAN and everything else can go over the interface. That way all of the other AIX boxes and admins can come in on en4 and SUMA and all other packets go to the en8. I used route add and when i rebooted I lost all of my routing, I know that it isn't persistent now! I have used smitty to do a lot of the changes the problem w/ that is that it puts multiple entries into the ODM. Not good messes up the routing table. Here is what I have right now:

I just need to force all 10.x.x.x over the internal en4 interface, shouldn't be that hard right? Yet I need both interfaces to know where their default gateways are... Maybe I am just missing a step, that is what I am thinking. Any help would be great.

I got second IOU in my M5000 but not able bring internal network interfcae .. ike i don't get link on those 2 interfaces .. and the same network cable plugged in PCI network card it works like a charm Is there any special way to enable the internal IOU interfaces or i have bad nics ? (8 Replies)

All, I have a quad NIC on a V880 running Solaris 9. I've heard you can bond interfaces together and get better throughput. I found this link that seems to describe the process well.        route - route traffic control filter

SYNOPSIS

       tc filter ... route [ from REALM | fromif TAG ] [ to REALM ] [ classid CLASSID ] [ action ACTION_SPEC ]

DESCRIPTION

       Match  packets  based  on routing table entries. This filter centers around the possibility to assign a realm to routing table entries. For
       any packet to be classified by this filter, a routing table lookup is performed and the returned realm is used to  decide  on  whether  the
       packet is a match or not.

OPTIONS

       action ACTION_SPEC
	      Apply an action from the generic actions framework on matching packets.

       classid CLASSID
	      Push matching packets into the class identified by CLASSID.

       from REALM
       fromif TAG
	      Perform source route lookups.  TAG is the name of an interface which must be present on the system at the time of tc invocation.

       to REALM
	      Match if normal (i.e., destination) routing returns the given REALM.

EXAMPLES

       Consider the subnet 192.168.2.0/24 being attached to eth0:

	      ip route add 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 realm 2

       The following route filter will then match packets from that subnet:

	      tc filter add ... route from 2 classid 1:2

       and pass packets on to class 1:2.

NOTES

       Due  to	implementation	details,  realm  values  must  be  in  a  range from 0 to 255, inclusive. Alternatively, a verbose name defined in
       /etc/iproute2/rt_realms may be given instead.
