wtmpx file is too big

Hi Friend, 
Best way is to purge the file
> /var/adm/wtmpx
this command will not effect your system, but you will loss all the information of user who logged in your server before, and first check the permission of file what is that after purging file and befor purging file if it chaged due to some resion then system will not boot after reboot then you need to reboot m/c in sigle user mode and create these empty file with same permission

the wtmpx file on my Sol8 machine, got so big (2GB), that my root partition is almost full now, can I empty that file, I read about it that it contains database of user access and auditing, so in case I emptied it will it affect my system??

we have a solaris 10 box that was handled by a different sysadmin before & now it is turned over to us for system administration. our concern is that if we issue the "last" command, it usually says "wtmp begins current day current month date 02:30". just like this "wtmp begins Thu Mar 7... utmpx, wtmpx - utmpx and wtmpx database entry formats SYNOPSIS

The utmpx and wtmpx files are extended database files that have superseded the obsolete utmp and wtmp database files. The utmpx database contains user access and accounting information for commands such as who(1), write(1), and login(1). The wtmpx database contains the history of user access and accounting information for the utmpx database. USAGE
Applications should not access these databases directly, but should use the functions described on the getutxent(3C) manual page to inter- act with the utmpx and wtmpx databases to ensure that they are maintained consistently. FILES
