Full backup and Restore
Dear All ;
first how are you every body I'm just subscribed in your forum and i hope i found what i searched for along time .
I'm not a Solaris specialist but i read more to build a Network Management Station depends on Solaris as OS and it is working good now .
my problem is how to perform full backup and restore what i backed up .
for Backup i do the following :
#/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0ufc /dev/rmt/0n /
#/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0ufc /dev/rmt/0n /opt
#/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0ufc /dev/rmt/0n /usr
and i read for ufsrestore but could any one till me the exact required steps to restore the above mentioned files .

I have several H80 machines, all with AIX 4.3.3. On these machines I have mksysb running for rootvg backups and savevg for non-rootvg backups.

I need to back up a RH file system (96G).
The files are oracle .dbf format some of which are 5G in size.
I know that tar has got a size restriction of 2G so I cannot use this.

I want to make sure I can restore, so I change to a test directory and try this:
restore -rvqf /dev/rmt0
However, we fail with this error:

mkdevmaps - make device_maps entries
SYNOPSIS
/usr/sbin/mkdevmaps
DESCRIPTION
The mkdevmaps command writes to standard out a set of device_maps(4) entries describing the system's frame buffer, audio, and removable
media devices.
The mkdevmaps command is used by the init.d(4) scripts to create or update the /etc/security/device_maps file.
Entries are generated based on the device special files found in /dev. For the different categories of devices, the mkdevmaps command
checks for the following files under /dev:
audio /dev/audio, /dev/audioctl, /dev/sound/...
tape /dev/rst*, /dev/nrst*, /dev/rmt/...
floppy /dev/diskette, /dev/fd*, /dev/rdiskette, /dev/rfd*
