I got this to work with reverse proxy as follows:

<VirtualHost *:80>

ServerAdmin xxxxx
DocumentRoot /var/www/html/
Servername helpdesk.domain.com
ErrorLog logs/helpdesk-error_log
CustomLog logs/helpdesk-access_log common

ProxyRequests Off

<Proxy *>
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</Proxy>

ProxyPass / http://internalserver.domain.com:8080
ProxyPassReverse / http://internalserver.domain.com:8080
