I'm a student who is studying system administration. I need to write a perl script to allocate disk quota to users. I'm using ubuntu and When I try to run edquota command in command line it says that Can't find file system with quota. pls help me. I tried to edit fstab. but didn't work.

Step 1: Create partion on device
#fdisk /dev/sda (because hard disk is scsi)

rquotad, rpc.rquotad - remote quota server
SYNOPSIS
rpc.rquotad
DESCRIPTION
rquotad is an rpc(3N) server which returns quotas for a user of a local filesystem which is mounted by a remote machine over the NFS. It
also allows setting of quotas on NFS mounted filesystem. The results are used by quota(1) to display user quotas for remote filesystems and
by edquota(8) to set quotas on remote filesystems. The rquotad daemon is normally started at boot time from the system startup scripts.

aquota.user or aquota.group
quota file at the filesystem root (version 2 quota, non-XFS filesystems)
quota.user or quota.group
quota file at the filesystem root (version 1 quota, non-XFS filesystems)
