Copy Compress as one command
Hi,
I need to copy and compress files in a directory in single line of command. I am able to copy and gzip files in one command but not directory. Command that I am using for copying directory is below :
cp -rp /u01/app/<directory> /u01/app/backup |gzip -r
/u01/app/backup/<directory>

I have a file in DirA/ABC.out a need to move to DirB.I am using the following steps now:
mv DirA/ABC.out DirB
compress -f DirB/ABC.out
Is there a way to just do this one step as I have to move hundreds of files every hour.

I realize the file can be copied and then compressed, but I was wondering if it's possible to do it in a one-line command and for that matter, if it would be more efficient to perform the operation with a one-line command?

tntnet-config [--libs] [--cxxflags] [--config[=app]] [--makefile[=app]] [--project=app] [--autoproject=app] [--help] [--version]
DESCRIPTION
This manual page documents briefly the tntnet-config command.
OPTIONS
This program's options start with two dashes (`-'). A summary of options is included below.
--libs Output linker flags.
--cxxflags
Output C++ preprocessor and compiler flags.
--config[=app]
Print default configuration file.
--makefile[=app]
Print a simple makefile for an ecpp project.
--project=app
Create a simple ecpp project directory.
--autoproject=app
Create a autotools based ecpp project.
--help Show summary of options.
--version
Show version of program.
