background process
i gave a copy process in the background( to copy around 100GB) , while in progress, the session got terminated. when i relogged in and checked the destination folder the copying was in progress... how could it happen(copying) when the shell terminates???

How do I start a background process and save the process id to a file on my system. For example %wait 5 & will execute and print the process id. I can't figure out how to get it to a file. I've tried: > filename 0>filename 1>filename.

Hi,
In shell script when I use
script1 >> filelog
the echo statments of script1 gets printed in the filelog
but when I try to run script in background i.e,
script1 & >> filelog
nothing gets printed in the filelog.
Anybody knows whats going on here.

I have a main script(main.ksh) within which I have called another script(sub.ksh). The sub.ksh script is made to run in the background using '&'. Convert obdgpslogger(1) logs to Google Earth kml files
OPTIONS
-o|--out <output filename>
Output to this .kml file
-a|--altitude <altitude>
In the kml file, normalise the graph to this height
-d|--db <database>
Work from logs stored in this database file
-n|--name <folder name>
Everything in this output file is wrapped in a folder named this
-v|--version
Print out version number and exit.
-h|--help
Print out help and exit.
NOT OPTIONS
These options aren't intended for end-users, they're for the GUI.
-p|--progress
Print out progress. It will occasionally print a number in the range [0..100], indicating progress percentage.
