Check in /etc/passwd if oracle has a defined home directory. If not, you can either use usermod to give it a home directory, or edit /etc/passwd. If, say, you made /u01/app/oracle the oracle home directory, then you should see an entry in /etc/passwd like:

I'm trying to set a group of users to login to do a required super-user tasks without knowing the super-user passwd.
For example...a user popodude logs in as self with passwd..system accepts the password & then automatically asks for the super-user account passwd.

I need to modify the user 'munfai' by adding it into groups bscs, oinstall, dba.
I use this command as user root to add the user into the mentioned groups :
# usermod -G bscs,oinstall,dba munfai
I can thereafter see the id in the groups :
# id munfai

SYNOPSIS
make-sqldeveloper-package [options] <file>
DESCRIPTION
make-sqldeveloper-package is a utility that builds a Debian package for Oracle SQL Developer.
The Oracle SQL Developer program is governed by the copyright holder (Oracle USA, Inc.), so you may be limited as to what you can do with
the resulting package (i.e. no redistribution, etc). This utility will simply help you create the Debian package, it is your responsibility
to use the resulting package acordingly with the OTN license, a copy of which is included in the created package, that you must agree on
when downloading the source.
This utility will require you to download the "Oracle SQL Developer for other platforms" archive from <http://www.oracle.com/technet-
work/developer-tools/sql-developer/> to create the Debian package from.
