Hi Johnf, hmm that command of yours work but not mine, what's the difference in the time that you placed? you put it as 00, 01, .... whereas i only put a 1 there as every single minute right? Hi Light, i did not restart the cron but i did try, i used the kill command to restart, with the option -1 followed by the PID. Is that the correct way? John, can you explain please thanks a lot guys.

redbook documentation is telling that IY17981 fix is required for aix 4.3.3 to aix 5L migration. But there is no mention about that fix in any ML installation packages.

40,14 *** /directory/<scriptname> (nb crontab won't accept the comma)

I've set up email alerts on AIX Servers. so that i can get email notifications (via mail relay server) when ever there is abnormal behavior.
for example
1) my script monitors CPU/disk/memory etc... when it reaches high water ark, it will send an email alert.

NAME
gdm-restart, gdm-safe-restart, gdm-stop - stop or restart GDM
SYNOPSIS
gdm-restart
gdm-safe-restart
gdm-stop
DESCRIPTION
gdm-restart stops and restarts GDM by sending a HUP signal to the GDM daemon. This command immediately terminates all sessions and logs out
users currently logged in with GDM.
gdm-safe-restart stops and restarts GDM by sending a USR1 signal to the GDM daemon. GDM is restarted as soon as all users log out.
gdm-stop stops GDM by sending a TERM signal to the GDM daemon.
FILES
The following files are used by this application:
/usr/bin/gdm-restart Executable to stop and restart GDM
/usr/bin/gdm-safe-restarExecutable to stop and restart GDM safely
/usr/bin/stop Executable to stop GDM
