Checking if string contains integer
G'day guys, first post so be gentle.
I need help with some code to work out if a variable (string) contains any integers. The valid variable (string) must contain only letters.
Also need to be able to work out if a variable contains only integers.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Below code is what i do currently. However it doesn't work out for all cases. As some times the last digit extracted is giving me error. It cant be used for arithmetic computation.

vfprintf - Write a formatted string to a stream
SYNOPSIS
int vfprintf (resource $handle, string $format, array $args)
DESCRIPTION
Write a string produced according to $format to the stream resource specified by $handle.
Operates as fprintf(3) but accepts an array of arguments, rather than a variable number of arguments.
PARAMETERS
o $handle

Returns the length of the outputted string.
