Short answer: early versions of unix were free from Bell Labs, universities added features - BSD comes from Berkley.
You should worry A LOT more about:
1. What hardware platforms are supported by a given flavor of unix ? -
do you need one high end box or several servers.
2. Software costs
3. Contract/maintenance costs
The spectrum on this sort of goes from Linux .. Red Hat Linux ... Solaris ... HPUX and AIX
....in terms of cost and hardware. You can cluster some Unixes making a "big" machine out of smaller ones. We have four HPUX boxes, 137 Intel PC RH Linux boxes for 2000 users.

UNIX comes in the most widest and broadest of functionalities and versions. Might be a good idea to:
1. introduce some vendor specific forums: e.g. HP-UX, Linux, AIX etc.
2. create more forums directed at core functionalities: e.g.: networking (already there), LVM, 3rd party applications... (1 Reply)

I've been charged with the task of finding out whether the scripts which we use on our current DYNIX (Sequent) UNIX box will continue to run happily on our soon-to-be-installed Sun Solaris box.

NAME
rhn_register - Connect to Spacewalk Server, Red Hat Satellite or Red Hat Network Classic.
SYNOPSIS
rhn_register [options]
DESCRIPTION
rhn_register is a client program that registers your system with "Spacewalk Server", "Red Hat Satellite" or "Red Hat Network Classic".
After registering, your system can receive software updates, install new software, and remotely manage your system. It can run both in
graphical and text modes.
OPTIONS
-v, --verbose
Increase the debugging output.
--proxy=PROXY
Specify an http proxy to use.
--proxyUser=PROXYUSER
Specify a username to use for an authenticated proxy. This option must be used in conjunction with proxyPassword.
--proxyPassword=PROXYPASSWORD
Specify a password to use for an authenticated proxy. This option must be used in conjunction with proxyUser.
--nox Run in text mode.
--version
Show the program's version number and exit.
-h, --help
Show a help message and exit.
FILES
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid
The digital server ID for this machine if the system has been registered onto "Spacewalk Server" or "Red Hat Satellite" or "Red Hat
