x11vnc & tightvnc Expertise Required !
Hi all,
For the past 3 days I have been struggling like to setup a VNC system between a solaris 8 unix host server and a windows XP tightvnc client viewer.
Please bear in mind that the unix machine is crap & probably should be taken to the "Antiques Road Show on the BBC". Everything is a mess in terms of mount points and system structure. So i cleared nearly all environement variables and started from near-scratch.
I did this following many attempts to build the tightvnc server on the Unix machine and found that i have no c-compiler jpeg/zlib libraries etc etc etc.
As such went to mans best friend = www.sunfreeware.com and installed the pre-compiled packages i think i need. Once again tried to build the tightvnc unix server but failed misserably again. It first tried to use cc, and then i tried the gcc but it keeps failing due to some language errors ??? ???
I then tried endlessly, upto the point where i read that maybe i could use x11vnc as at the unix server and tightvnc as the windows client. Is this true ?
In any case i tried, and i seem to have managed to start the x11vnc, but when i installed tightvnc (all seemed ok) on winXP, it keeps on returning failed to connect to server. I can connect to the same host using citrix and xreflection, so Im honestly running out of ideas of how to get this thing to work and some some advice right now would save my mental health.
I promise a beer in london for whoever can resolve this issue for me....
My most best regards and gratitude in advance for your efforts and valuable time in this matter.
