I use XFce4 on my arch linux box. It is very popular among arch users, as the whole philosophy of arch is running light and lean with as little bloat as possible. Check out the forums and wiki pages at www.archlinux.org and you'll find lots of tips. Obviously nothing specific to using debian's apt-get to install the package initially, but there is plenty of help for configuring xfce once you get it installed.

I've looked at the documentation at www.xfce.org as well. It is pretty skimpy, but what there is tends to be pretty good.

Good luck.
