Installing Xfce?

I'm running Debian and doesn't really like gnome nor KDE and read about this XFce that ought to be a more simple X which is exactly what I'm looking for. So I re-installed the bare minimums of Debian and here I am, with nothing but Links/Lynx vim and apt-get (lovely isn't it?) trying to configure Xfce4.

First I tried to just 'apt-get' it and run it but it asks for a desktop manager. So I download XDM and try to run it. It asks for "/etc/X11/X" which I don't have. I configured the file to ask for "/etc/Xfce4/startxfce4" instead but it doesn't work neither.

Anyone experienced in the subject that could guide me through the process?

Regards
Richard
