help combining lines in awk
I seem to have gotten myself in over my head on this one. I need help combining lines together.
I have a text file containing 24,000 lines (exactly why I need awk) due to bad formatting it has separated the lines (ideally it should be 12,000 lines total).
Example of file:
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118
56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118
56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118
56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
It goes on that way for 24k lines. What I need to do is bring the second line up after the first one so it looks like:
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118 56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118 56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
169.393 171.312 56.783 88.03 56.118 56.666 86.571 169.393 -999.25
The kicker thing is that there is no way to sort the two apart by the numbers, assume the numbers are completely random. The only way I can think is to try and sort by number of fields in each line. Is there any other way this can be done, or can someone help me figure out how to sort them by number of fields (4 vs 5).
Thanks
Blueheed

IGAWK(1) Utility Commands IGAWK(1)
NAME
igawk - gawk with include files
SYNOPSIS
igawk [ all gawk options ] -f program-file [ -- ] file ...
igawk [ all gawk options ] [ -- ] program-text file ...
DESCRIPTION
Igawk is a simple shell script that adds the ability to have ``include files'' to gawk(1).
AWK programs for igawk are the same as for gawk, except that, in addition, you may have lines like
@include getopt.awk
in your program to include the file getopt.awk from either the current directory or one of the other directories in the search path.
OPTIONS
See gawk(1) for a full description of the AWK language and the options that gawk supports.
EXAMPLES
cat << EOF > test.awk
@include getopt.awk
BEGIN {
while (getopt(ARGC, ARGV, "am:q") != -1)
...
}
EOF
igawk -f test.awk
