If it's a straight replacement, rip out the old harddisk and stick in the new ... then use the install CD (or such) of your prefered UNIX and away you go!
If you have *sensitive* information which must be rmoved first, I guess you could always run the dreaded command as root:
rm -rf /
Be warned ... THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING IT FINDS!!!

I have an HP9000 rp7420 running 11.i. I managed to mess up the console and can no longer get it to act as the console. When resetting the MP it seems to works, and after booting partition I can telnet into the box.

DESCRIPTION
performs a series of tests on each file in an attempt to classify it. If file appears to be an ASCII file, examines the first 512 bytes
and tries to guess its language. If file is an executable file, prints the version stamp, provided it is greater than 0 (see the descrip-
tion of the option in ld(1)).
