Hey, thanks for everyones input. I really do appreciate it.

I've been trying to do some research on some good books to help me learn scripting.

Background at the moment is that I use Linux and *BSD as my main operating systems, with Windows 2000 in the background. I'd like to further increase my skills in Linux and *BSD as well as venture into Solaris.

I'm new to scripting, so i'm still trying to learn just exactly what would be most beneficial for me to learn, both personally and professionally.

Here are a list of some books i've found that sound promising:

UNIX System Administration Handbook (3rd Edition) by Evi Nemeth

UNIX Shell Programming, Revised Edition by Stephen G. Kochan, Patrick H. Wood

The Korn Shell: Linux and Unix Shell Programming Manual (3rd Edition) by Anatole Olczak

UNIX Network Programming by W. Richard Stevens
UNIX Network Programming, Volume 2: Interprocess Communications (2nd Edition) by W. Richard Stevens

Programming Perl (3rd Edition) by Larry Wall

Perl Cookbook by Tom Christiansen

Linux and Unix Shell Programming by David Tansley

Learning Perl (3rd Edition) by Randal L. Schwartz

Learning the Bash Shell (Nutshell Handbooks) by Cameron Newham, Bill Rosenblatt

Quite a list eh? Ya, I love books. Just need to pick one at this time to get me started.

Any suggestions on a book to help me learn scripting/shell programming? Just to restate, i'm new to scripting and shell programming.

Thanks everyone!

Tarballed

PS. Feel free to suggest other books. ANything to help me build my skills. Smilie

CPANPLUS::Shell - base class for CPANPLUS shells SYNOPSIS
use CPANPLUS::Shell; # load the shell indicated by your # config -- defaults to # CPANPLUS::Shell::Default use CPANPLUS::Shell qw[Classic] # load CPANPLUS::Shell::Classic; my $ui = CPANPLUS::Shell->new(); my $name = $ui->which; # Find out what shell you loaded $ui->shell; # run the ui shell DESCRIPTION
This module is the generic loading (and base class) for all "CPANPLUS" shells. Through this module you can load any installed "CPANPLUS" shell. Just about all the functionality is provided by the shell that you have loaded, and not by this class (which merely functions as a generic loading class), so please consult the documentation of your shell of choice.
