FYI: There are lots of UNIX trademarks on file, not one.

As far as UNIX (the computer OS), The Open Group continues to try to enforce exclusive rights to dictate the terms on how people use the term 'unix' ... which every student knows has been a generic term for many years.


Trademarks that become common generic terms happen all the time. unix is one of those terms.

However, in WIPO, the issue is less about trademark and more about good faith. This domain was registered in 1993 many years before X/Open (Open Group) had anything to do with unix. -Neo
