Samba 2.2.5 smb.conf for noobies
Is there a generic smb.conf file that should work on all systems? Right now I am running Red Hat 7.3 and also have 3XP machines and 1 2000 pro.

I found this tutorial "Setting Samba in 10 min". It says there that command "/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start or stop, or /sbin/service/smb restart should do this functions. But this doesn't work for me. How can i make this share accessible to outside IP range or a specific IP address without need for user/pass?

i installed samba-client-3.0.23c-2 on Redhat Server but cat not start
#service smb start. it gives error
unrecognized smb
I checked
samba-common-3.0.23c-2
# rpm -qa |grep smb
pam_smb-1.1.7-7.2.1
# rpm -qa |grep samba
samba3-client-3.2.15-40.el5

I want to give access with samba to a folder but with read and copy rights but no write. I don't want somebody to be able to delete the files.
I found the read only parameter but this doesn't allow the users to copy the files. Is there an option for this?

I have a very long string and within that string I am trying to get proc file names
ie
PROCNAME1=SOME_FILENAME_UPDTBASE.SQL
There is a space on either side.

NAME
rhn_register - Connect to Spacewalk Server, Red Hat Satellite or Red Hat Network Classic.
SYNOPSIS
rhn_register [options]
DESCRIPTION
rhn_register is a client program that registers your system with "Spacewalk Server", "Red Hat Satellite" or "Red Hat Network Classic".
After registering, your system can receive software updates, install new software, and remotely manage your system. It can run both in
graphical and text modes.
OPTIONS
-v, --verbose
Increase the debugging output.
--proxy=PROXY
Specify an http proxy to use.
--proxyUser=PROXYUSER
Specify a username to use for an authenticated proxy. This option must be used in conjunction with proxyPassword.
--proxyPassword=PROXYPASSWORD
Specify a password to use for an authenticated proxy. This option must be used in conjunction with proxyUser.
--nox Run in text mode.
--version
Show the program's version number and exit.
-h, --help
Show a help message and exit.
FILES
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid
The digital server ID for this machine if the system has been registered onto "Spacewalk Server" or "Red Hat Satellite" or "Red Hat
Network Classic". This file does not exist otherwise.
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date
The common configuration file used by Red Hat client programs.
