Ok, I see somewhat how to go about doing it now, that you broke it down for me, but I have to be the complete newbie now, cause I don't know what the display is or anything, or how I would go about setting that.. or telling me where to find some of this information? on how to set the "DISPLAY":
$ ./runInstaller
DISPLAY not set. Please set the DISPLAY and try again.

the question i have is why Xwindows(GUI) is not part of kernel level but part of user level in unix while in windows the GUI (Windows manager) it is part of kernel level.
For one thing is when GUI hangs it does not crash the whole system as in Windows

propwatch - a tool to monitor X11 properties
SYNOPSIS
propwatch [ toolkit-options ] property-name ...
DESCRIPTION
propwatch is a tool to monitor window properties of root and application windows. Nice for debugging property-based IPC of X11 programs.
OPTIONS
propwatch uses the Athena Widgets and accepts the usual toolkit options like -geometry.
All remaining command line arguments are assumed to be property names which should be monitored. If no property names are specified, a
build in default set will be used.
ENVIRONMENT
DISPLAY
specifies the display to use for the propwatch window.
PROPWATCH
specifies the display to monitor. It unset, DISPLAY will be used.
