I have made several attempts to read two files of ip addresses and eliminate records from file1 that are in file2.
My latest attempt follows. Everything works except my file3 is exactly the same as file1 and it should not be.

Hi,
svn diff does not work very well with 2 local folders, so I am trying to do this diff using diff locally.
since there's a bunch of meta files in an svn directory, I want to do a diff that excludes everything EXCEPT *.java files. there seems to be only an --exclude option, so I'm not sure... (3 Replies)

I am comparing 2 files (using diff command) with numerical data in them. In the output file I want only the differences which are in file2 but not in file1. I want to compare 2 files. The files have the same amount of rows and columns. So each line must be compare against the other and if one differs from the other, the result of both must be stored in a seperate file.

This is how I do manually, but since I need to do this for about 150 files every week, I am trying to automate it using perl.
diff -u file1 file2 > file3.patch

Hi All,
When I write the diff command output(side by side format) to a file and viewed on the desktop using any text editor(say Notepad) the format of the output layout isn't the same as it should be, though "Wordwrap" option is disabled. bdiff - big diff SYNOPSIS
bdiff filename1 filename2 [n] [-s] DESCRIPTION
bdiff is used in a manner analogous to diff to find which lines in filename1 and filename2 must be changed to bring the files into agree- ment. Its purpose is to allow processing of files too large for diff. If filename1 (filename2) is -, the standard input is read. bdiff ignores lines common to the beginning of both files, splits the remainder of each file into n-line segments, and invokes diff on cor- responding segments. If both optional arguments are specified, they must appear in the order indicated above. The output of bdiff is exactly that of diff, with line numbers adjusted to account for the segmenting of the files (that is, to make it look as if the files had been processed whole). Note: Because of the segmenting of the files, bdiff does not necessarily find a smallest sufficient set of file differences. OPTIONS
n The number of line segments. The value of n is 3500 by default. If the optional third argument is given and it is numeric, it is used as the value for n. This is useful in those cases in which 3500-line segments are too large for diff, causing it to fail. -s Specifies that no diagnostics are to be printed by bdiff (silent option). Note: However, this does not suppress possible diagnos- tic messages from diff, which bdiff calls. USAGE
