Personally I wouldn't put UNIX on a Intel box any more. Few reasons, but if you don't know what your doing Solaris on a Intel box isn't easy. Also Sun don't support Solaris on Intel no more etc etc.

Yeah it can be done though.

Run Linux it's better for a Intel chipset to run. Easier as well.

Yes you can dual boot with Windows and Unix/Linux. If you think your good enough or just want to try you can have Windows and Unix and Linux all booting from the same computer. Triple boot is easier when 3 drives are in there, dual is easy with 1 drive 2 partitions.

Try Linux on Intel instead of UNIX though.

The library supports all Intel Yonah-based processors such as Intel Core Duo and Intel Core Solo processors. MODIFIERS
The following modifiers are supported on Intel Core Duo processors: u Measure at user level which includes privilege levels 1, 2, 3. This corresponds to PFM_PLM3. This is a boolean modifier. k Measure at kernel level which includes privilege level 0. This corresponds to PFM_PLM0. This is a boolean modifier. i Invert the meaning of the event. The counter will now count cycles in which the event is not occurring. This is a boolean modifier e Enable edge detection, i.e., count only when there is a state transition. This is a boolean modifier. c Set the counter mask value. The mask acts as a threshold. The counter will count the number of cycles in which the number of occur- rences of the event is greater or equal to the threshold. This is an integer modifier with values in the range [0:255]. ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES
It is possible to force activation of the Intel Core Duo support using the LIBPFM_FORCE_PMU variable. The PMU name, coreduo, must be passed. No additional options are supported. AUTHORS
