Never done it but I have looked right into it.
To start with a standard laptop with a Intel chip wont load Solaris for Sparc on it. Just letting people know the basics
Ok here's the go with Solaris 8 for intel on a laptop.
DON'T BOTHER!!!~!!~!
Sorry to say that but truely if you can get it working I would like to know what you asked about the specs of the laptop so I can do it.
See with Intel and Solaris 8 (reason I say Solaris 8 i because that's the most common used Solaris for Intel) it's not like a Soalris machine. Well DUH! you say, but due to the fact of the amount of different drivers and cards you can get on a Intel it's hard to find the right ones that'll go with Solaris 8 on a Intel chip base.
I have spoken to people who know there stuff at Sun. Also spoken to other people around. Now most of them say they have never done it but they would say that the graphics card would be the hardest thing to setup. If you can get teh graphics card working well that should make the install a hell of alot easier.
Drivers are the hardest thing to find for doing this.
Also last point Sun no longer supports Solaris 8 for Intel chips anymore. They say it's costing them to much money. So don't think support will be easy to find either. Well from Sun anyway.

It's cool that they offer it. But it comes with XP Pro. Change that to XP Home and you save $50. Change that to Linux and it costs the same as XP Home. They are not passing the savings to the consumer. (1 Reply)

IXGBE(4) BSD Kernel Interfaces Manual IXGBE(4)
NAME
ixgbe -- Intel(R) 10Gb Ethernet driver for the FreeBSD operating system
SYNOPSIS
To compile this driver into the kernel, place the following line in your kernel configuration file:
device ixgbe
Alternatively, to load the driver as a module at boot time, place the following line in loader.conf(5):
if_ixgbe_load="YES"
DESCRIPTION
The ixgbe driver provides support for PCI 10Gb Ethernet adapters based on the Intel 82598EB Intel(R) Network Connections. The driver sup-
ports Jumbo Frames, MSIX, TSO, and RSS.
For questions related to hardware requirements, refer to the documentation supplied with your Intel 10GbE adapter. All hardware requirements
listed apply to use with FreeBSD.
Support for Jumbo Frames is provided via the interface MTU setting. Selecting an MTU larger than 1500 bytes with the ifconfig(8) utility
configures the adapter to receive and transmit Jumbo Frames. The maximum MTU size for Jumbo Frames is 16114.
This driver version supports VLANs. For information on enabling VLANs, see ifconfig(8).
HARDWARE
The ixgbe driver supports the following cards:
o Intel(R) 10 Gigabit XF SR/AF Dual Port Server Adapter
o Intel(R) 10 Gigabit XF SR/LR Server Adapter
o Intel(R) 82598EB 10 Gigabit AF Network Connection
o Intel(R) 82598EB 10 Gigabit AT CX4 Network Connection
DIAGNOSTICS
ixgbe%d: Unable to allocate bus resource: memory A fatal initialization error has occurred.
ixgbe%d: Unable to allocate bus resource: interrupt A fatal initialization error has occurred.
ixgbe%d: watchdog timeout -- resetting The device has stopped responding to the network, or there is a problem with the network connection
(cable).
SUPPORT
For general information and support, go to the Intel support website at: http://support.intel.com.
